Counselling for children, young people and adults
A confidential space to talk through stress, change and relationships with a registered counsellor.
Wonderful Mind offers counselling for children, young people, parents, carers and adults in Melbourne’s northern suburbs (Doreen and Craigieburn clinics) and by telehealth. Our counselling is trauma-informed and neuro-affirming, draws on approaches such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and is provided by a counsellor registered with the Australian Counselling Association (ACA).

Counselling questions
Do I need a referral for counselling?
No. You can contact our intake team directly to arrange counselling.
Is counselling covered by Medicare?
No. Medicare rebates apply to psychology with a Mental Health Treatment Plan, not to counselling. Some private health funds cover sessions with an ACA-registered counsellor, so it is worth checking with your fund.
Can the NDIS fund counselling?
NDIS participants may be able to use their plan for counselling where it relates to their goals. Our intake team can talk through funding with you.
What is the difference between a counsellor and a psychologist?
Both offer talking therapy. Psychologists can also diagnose, complete assessments and provide Medicare-rebated sessions. Counselling suits people who want support with everyday challenges, relationships and life changes. Our intake team can help you decide which is the better fit.
Can counselling be done by telehealth?
Yes. Sessions are available at our Doreen and Craigieburn clinics or by telehealth.
Not sure where to start?
Tell our intake team what is happening for you or your family. We will talk through whether counselling, psychology or another service is the right fit.
