Wonderful Mind was founded in 2021 by our passionate clinical director, Nikoo Chamani, Wonderful Mind embodies a deep commitment to nurturing early childhood development and providing crucial psychological support for survivors of domestic violence. Nikoo, a registered Art Therapist, has enriched her expertise through extensive training in trauma-informed modalities, including Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and Schema Therapy. As a certified clinical supervisor and autism assessor, Nikoo has instilled in Wonderful Mind a philosophy centered on empowering children and families to flourish.

The Wonderful Mind team is led by a dedicated and experienced management group committed to delivering exceptional child and youth mental health services.

 

Nikoo Chamani, the Clinical Director, brings a passionate and specialized focus on autism and trauma, guiding the clinical vision of the practice.

 

Reza Makouei serves as the Managing Director, leveraging his extensive experience in business and financial consultation to ensure the smooth and effective operation of the organization.

 

Kate Tovey, the Practice Manager, who oversees daily operations and plays a crucial role in maintaining a supportive and efficient environment for both clients and practitioners.

 

Together, this leadership team ensures that Wonderful Mind continues to provide comprehensive, evidence-based, and compassionate care.​ At Wonderful Mind, we champion a family-centered and holistic approach to therapy, recognizing the profound impact of family dynamics on a child's overall well-being. Our neurodiversity-affirming practice is comprised of a multidisciplinary team from diverse backgrounds, united by a dedication to evidence-based practice. We actively pursue ongoing academic pathways to continually enhance our knowledge and provide the highest quality of support for our clients.

We deeply value and celebrate the myriad ways individuals experience and engage with the world. As passionate advocates against ableism, we actively cultivate an inclusive and supportive environment where every child feels genuinely accepted and valued for who they are.

We know by heart that every child's development is unique and every individual have their own path to meaning and purpose in recovery. This has shaped our flexible approach to practice and our aim in providing genuine choice and control to our clients regardless of their age, sex, gender, sexuality race and background.


Wonderful Mind provides practical and motivational support to children (including early childhood intervention) families and youth who either have developmental delays, or mental health and wellbeing concerns. We work with clients to set goals and create awareness and skills to achieve them. We focus on our clients’ strengths, values and support preferences to improve:

  • early developments

  • daily living skills

  • capacity for self-care

  • mental and physical health

  • social and relationship skills

  • quality of life


Our wonderful team provide specialised therapies and teach skills to address more complex behaviours and needs. 
 
Partnerships

We help connecting clients to holistic community-based supports to enhance recovery.
 
Wonderful Mind is a NDIS registered provider delivering services through center-based, outreach and online methods. Our partnerships with child protection and other government supported services for domestic violence enable us to seamlessly connect clients to a range of local supports and services in their own communities, for an integrated and holistic care experience.
 
Measuring outcomes

Monitoring client recovery, improving service delivery and evaluating our impact is what we value most.

Outcome measures enhance our practice's accountability by enabling us and our clients to assess the effectiveness of our services, keep track of clients’ progress against their recovery plans and provide evidence of success to our funder and partners.

Holistic Approach to psychotherapy

At Wonderful Mind we value mind and body approach to therapy which includes a large and diverse group of procedures or techniques that are administered or taught by our trained practitioners and instructors. This includes techniques such as meditation, visual imagery, cognitive–behavioural therapy, EMDR, expressive arts, and animal assisted therapy as well as martial arts and self-defense techniques. This would assist our client to choose their pathway of recovery and to have a better awareness of both their mind and body.

Current member of the professional organization APHRA Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency, APS Australian Psychology Society, ANZACATA (Australian Creative Arts Therapy Association) and ACA (Australian Counselling Association), PACFA Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia, NCAS (National Coach accreditation Scheme), MAIA (Martial Arts Industry Australia), The Australian Music Therapy Association (AMTA) and APPTA (Australasia Pacific Play Therapy Association)
