Alicia Grant (she/her)
Alicia is a Registered Play Therapist with over 15 years of dedicated experience supporting children, young people, and their families. Her career has been defined by a deep passion for understanding the unique inner worlds of children and creating spaces where they feel truly seen, heard, and valued.
A Rich Foundation in Education and Specialized Care
Alicia’s journey began in primary school education, where she developed a fundamental understanding of child development and learning environments. Driven by a desire to support children facing complex challenges, she transitioned into specialist education roles, including:
-
Supporting Children in Out-of-Home Care: Navigating complex developmental and emotional needs with care and stability.
-
Neurodivergent & Trauma-Informed Consulting: Partnering with schools to create inclusive, accommodating environments for students with complex needs.
-
Alternative Education Leadership: Served as Campus Principal of a Community School, dedicated to re-engaging young people who needed an alternative environment to thrive.
It was during these formative leadership and specialist roles that Alicia witnessed firsthand the transformative and therapeutic power of play as a tool for connection and healing. This passion inspired her to pursue and complete her Master of Play Therapy.
Specialized Hospital Experience
Before joining Wonderful Mind, Alicia spent four impactful years working in Paediatric Oncology at the Royal Children’s Hospital. In this role, she provided crucial therapeutic support to children and families navigating the emotional, physical, and psychological weight of cancer treatment. This experience deepened her compassion and honed her ability to provide gentle, grounded support during life’s most difficult moments.
Approach to Therapy
At Wonderful Mind, Alicia brings a warm, flexible, and deeply intuitive approach to her practice. Recognizing that no two children are the same, she draws upon training across multiple modalities to tailor sessions to each child’s unique strengths, interests, and developmental needs.
-
Neuro-Affirming & Trauma-Informed: Celebrating neurodiversity and honoring each child's individual pace and way of processing the world.
-
Collaborative Support Network: Alicia works closely alongside parents, caregivers, educators, and allied health professionals to build a supportive, holistic ecosystem around the child.
-
A Safe Haven: Above all, Alicia offers a gentle, safe, and inclusive environment where children can process big emotions, build resilience, and thrive.
