Kye Chee (He/him)

Kye Chee is a passionate Occupational Therapist dedicated to creating a space where every child and family feels truly seen, understood, and empowered. Kye’s journey into OT, rooted in a strong belief in the potential of every individual, makes them a valuable addition to the Wonderful Mind team.

Family-Centered, Child-Led, and Humanistic

At the heart of Kye’s practice is a humanistic philosophy that recognizes and respects the unique dignity of every child and family. Kye believes that therapy isn't about "fixing" a problem; it's about understanding the child within their natural environment and collaborating to unlock their inherent strengths.

  • Child-Centered Focus: Therapy is a space for play, movement, and genuine connection. Kye tailors every session to the child’s interests, ensuring interventions are fun, engaging, and meaningful. By following the child's lead, Kye transforms therapeutic goals into exciting adventures, boosting self-esteem and intrinsic motivation. Kye's personal interests in sports like tennis, golf, and rugby often inspire creative, movement-based interventions that feel like play, not work.

  • Family-Centered Partnership: Kye views the family as the child's most important resource. The goal is always to work with parents and caregivers as partners, not just providers of information. Kye takes the time to truly listen to a family’s story, values, and daily routines, ensuring that strategies are practical, sustainable, and integrated seamlessly into home life. This collaborative approach fosters a sense of teamwork and shared success.

Approach to therapy

Since graduating as an Occupational Therapist from The University of Auckland in 2021, Kye has gained valuable experience in occupational rehabilitation, supporting individuals with a wide range of physical and mental health conditions. This background has fortified a truly holistic approach to care, where mental health, physical well-being, and daily function are viewed as interconnected.

What truly sets Kye apart is a profound personal insight into neurodiversity. Growing up alongside younger Neurodivergent siblings, Kye brings more than just clinical knowledge to the table. This lived experience allows Kye to connect deeply with children who may feel misunderstood, who don't always fit into traditional systems, or who are navigating the world in their own unique way.

This blend of professional expertise and personal empathy makes Kye a relatable, energetic, and highly effective therapist for children and families seeking genuine, compassionate support on their journey.
